  12. Take 2 tablespoons Chopped coriander leaves

  15. Make ready 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  16. Take 1 tsp cumin seeds
  17. Make ready 1/2 tsp Hing
  18. Take 1 sprig Curry leaves

We have to grind the whole spices along with tomato and coconut. Then saute onions and add the ground coconut paste. Let the sambar boils till the raw smell of spices and tomato goes away. Idli sambar is a tasty & delicious hotel style tiffin sambar that is served with idli.

Instructions to make Tiffin Sambar::
  1. Wash and cook toor and moong dal in a pressure cooker. Mash and keep aside. - Take one tawa, do seasoning. Heat Oil, splutter mustard, cumin, hing and curry leaves.
  2. Fry onion until it is transparent. Add turmeric, green chillies, tomato and drumstick pieces as well as salt and fry until tomato cooks.
  3. Add Sambhar powder toss for 2 minutes and pour tamarind water, jaggery and boil. - Add Cooked dal and adjust the consistency and boil nicely.
  4. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve as a side dish for any south Indian breakfast items. - If you are serving with Button idlies/ mini idlies Pour one to two serving spoons of sambar, place 14 idlies and once again pour some sambhar over those idlis and serve.

Apart from idli, this sambar can also be served with dosa, vada and Pongal. The hallmark of this idli sambar recipe is the addition of freshly roasted and ground spices.
